 Congratulations,
you finally received your Angel funding. You and your two partners
have rented a small, low-rent
office, and you are taking a break from unpacking the boxes
filled with all the computers, disks, and papers that were formerly
in your garage. While the other two guys or gals are picking up
office supplies, pizza, and whatever they can find to
replace the awful drapes currently adorning the windows—you
are sitting quietly against a wall, thinking: "Crap. How the
hell are three
of us
supposed
to get
all this done?"
Glad you asked. Often times, you don't have
the bandwidth to provide detailed oversight to the people helping
you create your
product. When you need to handoff these tasks to an experienced
professional, and say, "Here, do it, and figure out how to
do it well without detailed guidance, because I don't have the
time!", you can rely upon my ability to take the initiative
and provide an outstanding service with minimal hand-holding.
For example, while other writers may depend
on pre-designed document templates to know the desired structure
for your technical documentation, I can design a template that
specifically suits
the needs of your company and your product. At an earlier stage,
if you have a design specification which identifies product functionality
but not the interface, I have the technical skills, esthetic sensibility,
and intuitive understanding of usability issues to design a software
or hardware interface for you.
While I have worked
with both small companies and larger, established clients,
I consider
myself
especially
well-suited for startups. I enjoy the creative opportunity of
helping to define a product and a company in the formative stages.
And if your budget is tight—which it probably is—you
will benefit from the fact that, while my hourly rates are not
the lowest in town, I am both fast and efficient at what I do.
In addition, I am prepared to show consideration in fees in exchange
for some equity involvement in a startup.
So, if you are sitting there thinking, "How
the hell are three of us supposed to get all of this done (and
what's taking so long with that pizza, anyway)?",
then know that I am available to help offload some of your crucial
tasks,
with minimal guidance, making your burden that much the less.
Two final notes:
- I don't help with unpacking the boxes—bad
back and all that. But, I can probably make some good suggestions
for the drapes, and I'll take pineapple on half of one pizza....
