Types
of Systems I Document
- GUIs for a wide
variety of software, from advanced engineering applications
to business and medical systems
- Software APIs and
related internal code and data structures
- Communications protocols
- Hardware for telecommunications
and other engineering applications
- ASIC functionality at
the register and hardware interface levels
- Business procedures for
ISO-9000 documentation and related process control
support
In sum, I can document virtually any
kind of software or hardware, for almost any kind of
application. I am especially well
qualified to document the technical "insides" of
advanced systems – code, communications protocols,
register level ASIC functionality, etc.
Target
Audiences I Write For
I can write for audiences at any level
of knowledge and technical sophistication. I excel at
supporting users who require in-depth information, and
who can understand and benefit from detailed technical
exposition.
Areas
of Specialized Expertise
My background in...
- Physics
- Telecommunications
- Programming (Java,
C++, VB, SQL, HTML)
- Object-oriented Programming (OOP)
- Electronics
- Engineering Math
....makes me especially qualified
to document emerging advanced technologies.
Software

I'm a quick study when it comes to
learning new software tools.
Nutshell Summary
In a nutshell,
I make high technology clear.
Both by training and by experience,
I have the necessary competencies to document and market
software and hardware systems. That includes the “innards”,
such as software code, hardware register design and interfaces
for electronic chips, and communications protocols; and
also external user interfaces and general design specifications.
In the realm of pure documentation
(print or online), the signatures of my work are clarity,
thoroughness, and logical, accessible organization. In
the realm of marketing, my focus is on selling the sizzle and the
steak. I convey the substantial information necessary
for a rational and informed purchase decision, while
employing a style that is lively, engaging, and enthusiastic.
While my primary focus is hardware
and software, I can write—and have written—on
just about anything, for almost any audience. For example:
- I’ve scripted training films
on medical procedures, and on laboratory tests for
HIV. I've also scripted motivational and sales videos
with little or no technical content.
- Far, far from the realms of transistors,
object-oriented data structures, or microbes, I've
written direct mail brochures and copy for porcelain
reproductions of The Statue of Liberty and The Oval
Office, as well as fund-raising copy for one of the
two major political parties.
