My name is Steven Oppenheimer. My
main qualification for my career is that I love to learn, and
I love to help others
gain the same understanding that I've gained.
I am
a professional writer and patent agent with twenty years of experience
spanning technical writing, science writing, journalism, business
plan
development,
scriptwriting for training films, and marketing copy. I
have provided these services to corporate, government, and military
clients.
In addition,
my qualifications include:
- Specific experience documenting software (including
both GUIs and APIs), electronics, telecommunications, biotechnologies,
and other advanced technologies
- B.A. from Cornell as a College Scholar, with
studies in physics and math
- M.A. in the Liberal Arts from St. John's College
(home of the "great books" program)
- Additional coursework in computer science, chemistry,
biology, electronics, and business
- Licensed U.S. Patent Agent
I have substantial facility with various graphics
tools, and a keen sense of aesthetics, having designed elegant
and informative graphics for many of my projects. In addition
to my formal contributions as a writer, I have also
assisted
many clients in related areas, such as refining software
GUI
designs, contributing numerous ideas for product feature enhancements,
and addressing other usability issues for newly developed products.
Continuing Education
As part of my continuing education, I've earned
a Certificate In Programming from Montgomery Community College, and
I have also taken courses in diverse fields from chemistry, biology,
and genetics
to video production and accounting. I am currently engaged
in ongoing studies in digital and analog electronics.
A Specialist and a Generalist
While I am skilled in communicating complex ideas,
I can also write for general audiences. Fresh out of college, I wrote
articles on science for popular audiences for Science Digest Magazine
(which was, back in the 1980's, what Discover Magazine is today).
I've also
written ad copy for pewter and porcelain collectibles for a "middle American" audience. Finally, I've recently published
an unusual college hunting guide, Spying
On The College Of Your Choice, to help
high school students and their parents make the best use of their
visits to college campuses.
My many interests,
and my broad education in the sciences, math, computer science,
electronics, business, and humanities, make me highly qualified
to engage in writing, analysis, and related tasks in diverse areas,
from technology to business to education.
