Of all my work, it is in the area of marketing
and advertising where I have "stepped out" farthest from
technical communications, and demonstrated my general facility with
reaching out to diverse
audiences with unique interests:
- Cognio, Gaithersburg, MD
Cognio develops hardware and software to support advanced technologies
for improving wireless communications between computers (based
on the 802.11a/b/g protocols). In addition to extensive
technical writing for Cognio, I also created numerous white
papers and product briefs. The white papers explained
the general principles behind the technology, while the product
briefs focused on specific hardware and software (such as
a sensing system designed to let network engineers monitor
and
control the full wireless spectrum in which 802.11
networks operate).
-
The Danbury Mint, Norwalk, CT
The Danbury Mint is a vendor of pewter and porcelain mail-order
collectibles. Over the years I have generated a wide variety
of brochure and direct-mail copy for them, for such projects
as: A porcelain replica of The Oval Office; pewter
replicas of famous American steam locomotives; a pewter
status of the World War II flag raising at Iwo Jima; and
even a collection of porcelain plates emblazoned with famous
Renaissance
paintings of biblical scenes.
- Time-Life Books, Alexandria, VA
I wrote direct-mail copy for a Time-Life Books book series, “Americans
At War”.
- Political fundraising copy
I have written direct-mail fund-raising collateral for the national committee
of one of the two major political parties.
